The plot It is set in the future where technology has advanced to create robots (synths) which some people and families buy to help them with their jobs and in their lives. Joe Hawkins buys a robot (synth) without talking to his wife, Laura, as he thinks it will give her more free time. Instead of being grateful for the help, she feels threatened and unwanted, she also worries it will confuse their 3 children. She’s especially worried when the robot carries her youngest child, Sophie, out of the house one night. Laura becomes more and more curious about Anita the synth as she shows human characteristics…can she be more than a robot?
