It was September 1993. Janet's dad gave her a lift to London Gatwick airport as she had to fly to Venice in Italy where she now lived, after a short holiday with her family in England.

It was a late flight, they arrived at the airport at about 8 o'clock, the flight was due to leave at 10 o'clock. Her dad said 'goodbye' and she had a sandwich and a cup of coffee in the departure lounge. They called the flight, there were no problems and she took off at 10 o'clock.

During the journey the captain told everyone that there was bad fog in Venice and he couldn't land the airplane there. He had to divert the airplane and go to Verona airport. There was nothing anyone could do so she arrived a little late at Verona airport.

After she arrived she followed everyone from the flight onto a bus. She thought the bus would take her to Venice, but it took everyone to a remote hotel! She couldn't stay at the hotel for 2 reasons, her friend was waiting for her at Venice airport, and she didn't have any money with her!! It was a very difficult situation - everyone went into the hotel to book a room for the night but she couldn't do that. Everyone was disappearing.

Then she saw 2 American men and a taxi, she heard the word 'Venice' and decided this was her only chance! When they got into the car she gently pushed the man further into the car so she could get in with them! She was very quiet during the 45 minute journey, in fact she didn't say a word because she felt shy and cheeky because she hadn't asked and didn't have any money!

Luckily, they arrived at Venice Marco Polo airport! It was 4 o'clock in the morning and even though she was tired she jumped out of the car very quickly because she couldn't help pay for the taxi!!

She went into the airport and her friend was nearly asleep but he was still there. They were very happy to see each other.
